By its very definition the diagrams provided are not 'launchpads' or starting points for developing them into something other than what they are. The mechanics of SmartArt preempts all but a limited amount of modification by the user.

If you need custom work you'd do best to create the flowchart from the ground up using the Shape Tools. And I'd further suggest that the work be done in PPT or in Excel where the Connectors work:-) For some reason they have been broken in Word 2011 since it was first released & the bug is yet to be corrected. Once you create your flowchart there, select & Group the content, save it for future revision, copy/paste to your Word document (and/or add it to the Scrapbook). Regards, Bob J.
